mdoc can receive, validate and process data from home care devices via the internet. This approach means that mdoc can realise the requirements of a telemedical platform that acts as a central node to monitor patient data in a clinic or competence network in the case of patients who still live at home, for example.

These patients receive so-called home care devices such as feeding pumps, respirators, scales etc. that are connected to the computer in their home via the USB interface. The computer transmits the device data to a processing centre (e.g. the clinic) via the internet. modoc quickly retrieves the data there and evaluates them.

The intermediate step via a processing centre is performed for security reasons in order to preclude direct remote access to mdoc via the internet. The processing centre has special software that converts the individual device data from the individual devices to the standardised mdocExchange format. In the event of new devices or updates to device software it is merely necessary to add a corresponding converter with the mdocExchange format.

All data transmitted via the internet are naturally protected from unauthorised access by the tried and tested pseudonymisation technology from Tembit as well as strong encoding.

mdoc evaluates the data received and while doing so monitors two factors:

• do data arrive at the intervals determined by the doctor; and
• are data within the predefined limits.

mdoc generates an alert if one of the two conditions does not apply. Subject to the respective SOPs this can be forwarded via email, SMS or other messaging channels.
